Cook Book

If you’ve never cooked for your dog (or cat) before, don’t worry, it’s not difficult.

Here’s are some basic information and ideas,a dinner and a muttloaf recipe to get you started

“LIBERTY” will provide the base for your dog’s meals, all the essential nutrients needed every day. You add the variety, by choosing the meat or fish protein and vegetables you know they love. Remember when feeding your Cat they need a higher protein content.

Make up some batches and freeze some, saves time (and washing up !) or make Muttloaves and simply slice and serve.

Not sure you have the time ? Would like to try one before you make it yourself ?
Going away and would like the convenience of MUTTLOAF ready prepared ?

Purchase online at our "MUTTLOAF TO GO" page

Meal Ideas

Meat

Chicken, Turkey, Beef, Lamb, are ideal meats to use. We would not recommend Pork. Cheaper fattier cuts are fine, animals need fat in their diet, so include the skin etc, and add liver or heart once or twice a week.

Fish

We find tinned fish in OIL convenient. Tuna, Mackerel, Sardines, and Salmon can be used with the bones mashed in.

Veggies

Include a variety of vegetables and fruit – either lightly cooked or raw.

Carrots, parsnips, potatoes, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, greens, sweet potato, green beans, peas, celery, spinach are perfect.

Apples, pears, berries are nutritious. Chop them up and remove the pips.

           Top Tip

Don’t throw away your meat or veggie leftovers anymore! Meat trimmings, broccoli stalks,  carrot tops and tails, cauliflower leaves, outer celery stalks  etc ,etc
all end up in the bin – not now. All those fabulous nutritious things
are free and are good for your dog

  Doggie NO NO’s

Onions, sweetcorn, tomatoes, grapes, raisins, fruit pips, chocolate.

‘LIBERTY’  BEEF   MUTTLOAF

800g pack   ‘Value’ Mince

200g           Chopped Liver or Heart (optional) increase mince amount by 200g if not using

3 scoops     Dry ‘Liberty’ mix

220g           Mixed Veg either fresh or frozen

100g           Spinach  fresh or  2 cubes chopped up, if  using frozen (optional) increase veg by 100g if not using

60g             Grated Cheese  (optional)

2 Eggs

1 tsp            Yeast Extract or Marmite (optional)

This recipe will fill a 1lb loaf tin, if you don’t have one use a cake tin, roasting pan or casserole dish.

Lightly oil tin or dish and line the bottom with tin foil or greaseproof  paper.

Put all ingredients except the spinach and cheese into a large bowl and mix together.

Place half mixture in bottom and push down into the corners, if using spinach and cheese now layer this across the middle, then top up with remaining meat mix and push down firmly.

Cover with foil and cook for  1 - 1 1/2 hours 200C  400F Gas 6, till mutt loaf feels firm when pressed in the centre..

Allow to cool before turning out.

Slice and serve, it looks good and smells delicious.

Always refer to feeding guide on our website if you are unsure of amount.

Fresh drinking water should always be available

You can double or treble up this recipe and cook in a large roasting tin, divide into portions and wrap and freeze.  Perfect for convenient meals during the busy week and for holiday times. Just slice, chop and serve.

If you don’t like liver, as much as your dog, you can buy it sliced and just place a layer in the middle of the mutt loaf instead of the cheese and spinach, you can always put the cheese and spinach in the mix, dog heaven!

Use Lamb mince and liver or heart or Turkey mince and chicken livers and  any spare veggies ie celery, green beans, chopped up broccoli stalks etc to add variety.
